A SIP Proxy acts as an edge controller of calls to your PBX from end users whose location may not be fixed. it provides extra features not avaialble in a PBX such as security blocking of unwanted traffic and translation of messages to provide a better calling experience.
A SIP Proxy is only needed for your cloud PBX in a few scenarios. One, if you simple want to protect your existing PBX (cloud or on premise) from external traffic. Two, to enable Microsoft Teams your SIP proxy will act as a Session Border Controller between your PBX and Microsoft Teams. Three, to enable remote app users without having to open your PBX up to external random IP addresses. Of course your may want all three of the above features and any combination can be enabled at once.
No there is no contract. The service is paid for monthly or annually in advance. You can cancel at any time or simply decide not to pay for the next period. The annual payment option can be chosen at checkout for a discounted price.
If your office has a fixed IP address and you dont intend to expose your PBX to apps outside your office, and you dont want to use Microsoft Teams then you dont need a SIP Proxy. Mobile apps can be enabled with a Cloud PBX without a SIP Proxy but the SIP Proxy solution is more secure.
Yes. You will need a Phone System licence from Microsoft. The Office 365 E5 Level licence comes with this by default but it may need to be purchased as an addon for other levels of Office 365 licensing. Your Microsoft account then needs to be configured for Direct Routing and each user will require a direct dial number (DID) which we can supply. Each Direct Dial number needs to be configured on the users account in Microsoft Teams Admin. There is also some Dial Plan routing settings to enable local dialling patterns to be recognised. Additionally, the SIP proxy needs to be set with a subdomain of your domain used in Microsoft Office 365. This requires you to set the subdomain registration with your domain hosting DNS provider. We can advise and assist with all the above configuration.
Yes, of course. We can supply an end to end solution with SIP Proxy, Cloud PBX, SIP Trunk, DIDs and Phones. Dedicated App clients or Microsoft Teams integration is a choice you can make based on your needs.
No, when using a SIP Proxy with our Cloud PBX solution the Microsoft configuration is the only part that we need access to IT config that isnt in our domain but we can help you execute these changes if you are able to access the Microsoft Teams Admin screens. If using the SIP Proxy with your exisitng PBX solution then there is extra configuration needed there to allow and handle the inbpund and outbound routes from and to the SIP Proxy. Again we can advise your PBX admin on these required changes.
No, we only charge you a fixed fee to rent the SIP Proxy service. If you wish to terminate the service then you are free to do so at any stage. As there is no SIP Proxy hardware there are no charges for equipment.
Please contact us if you have custom needs and we should be able to accommodate.
Yes, we can deploy a dual instance resilient SIP Proxy. Microsoft Teams and your PBX can be configured so that if one route is down the other will take the traffic. Instances are deployed in different regions to give the most fault tolerant solution possible.
Calls made from Microsft Teams are routed to the SIP Proxy and are onward routed to the PBX for handling whether that is internal or external calls. External calls will be made by whatever routing you require e.g. they could route to your Outbound SIP Trunk sharing your company free minutes. Likewise calls from external numbers come to your PBX and are routed to PBX functions like extension follow-me, time-rules, ring groups, queues, IVR etc before onward routing to end user devices. These end users could be using Microsoft Teams and in this case the call will be passed to the Microsoft Teams app to answer the call whether thats on a computer or the mobile app. Both the Microsft Teams computer app and the mobile app will ring simultaneously if the end user is logged into both. This is ideal for users who are out and about.
